What is the Dashboard?

The Dashboard is a view containing several lesser panels, each containing information or functionality. These can be rearranged to suit preferences, allowing an user to see the most important things for them, at a glance.  You can configure which portlets to use, and how many columns to place the portlets in. The default option is two columns, in the proportions 67% -33%, and the five 'standard' portlets described below, but you are free to change this.

 

The dashboard is intended to be used as a start page of sorts (It is by default the single open tab when starting VisionProject). If the dashboard tab is not present, it can easily be reached by clicking on the link under the General header  in the left navigation panel. Note that the Dashboard is always created as the leftmost tab! (all general tabs have default positions to the left)

 

There are three classes of portlets available - the 'standard' five, search/filter, and graph portlets.  Select new portlets by clicking on the 'Select content..' menu at the bottom of the dashboard. Remove portlets by closing them - click on the X-icon in their top right corner.

Changing the column layout is straightforward, just select one of the options in the 'Columns' dropdown list at the bottom of the dashboard.

Note: If you have activated the chat module, data will be pushed to most portlets using an XMPP client. If you do not use the chat module, or are offline, the portlets will update when you return to the dashboard from another tab.

 

1. My open issues - a simplified issue list showing your issues over several projects. Read more here: Portlets/My open issues

  • Shows all your issues in different projects.. Columns :Type, issue key, issue name, status and project.
  • You can sort on a column by clicking on it. Repeated clicking on the same column changes the direction of sort (ascending/descending).
  • Select a column and click on the right arrow icon - a menu appears where you can choose columns to show, and  to group issues on different attributes.
  • There is a small Settings dialog for this portlet available. Click on the cogwheel icon in the top right. In the dialog, you can select your definition of what 'my' issues means.
  • Double click to open the issue or document in its project tab.
  • Right click to access the context menu, with several functions to edit the selected issue.

 

2. Recent activity - shows created and changed issues/documents/Users/Companies/Contracts over the last time frame. Read more here: Portlets/Recent activity

  • Shows newly created/changed issues and documents in different project, helping users get an idea of what is going on.
  • Changes are color coded for helping users see the status.
  • You can sort on columns, choose columns and group changes by clicking on the column headers.
  • Double click to open the issue or document in its project tab.
  • Right click to access the context menu, with several functions to edit the selected issue.

 

3. Late and upcoming sprints - shows status for different sprints for projects. Read more here: Portlets/Late upcoming sprints

  • Each row shows one active sprint for a project. Project name, sprint name/number, creation date, total issues, completed issues and a progressbar showing how much work has been done on the sprint.  
  • Click on the sprint number to open the sprint in its project tab.

 

4. Quick Links - clicking here takes you to the desired function immediately.

  • New Project will open in a new tab, where you can create a new project.
  • New user will open in a new tab where you can create a new user.
  • New Issue will create a pop-up window where you can enter a new issue

 

5. Personal notes - No post-it notes needed any more!

  • Here you can enter notes to yourself between work sessions, what to remember, etc.
  • Right click on hyper links to open in new window/tab.

 

Search/Filter portlets:

Search/Filter portlets show the result of a selected search/filter, as a list of issues. The search portlets available in the menu always reflects the search/filters available in the searches tab. Read more about it here: Portlets/Saved Searches/Filters

  • Double click on an issue to open it in its project tab.
  • Use the context menu to perform selected functions on the issue.
  • Need a custom search for the portlet? Create it first in the Search page, and after that it is available in the Dashboard 'Select content..' menu.

 

Graph portlets:

Graph portlets is a category of selected statistics portlets showing useful information as charts, graphs or other graphical representations.

Most have selections in the toolbar where you can choose the project and time interval the graph is based on. Read more about graph portlets here: Portlets/Charts

  • Want to see the graph for another project or time interval? Just change the options in the dropdown lists.
