Dear VisionProject user,

As you may have noticed, VisionProject was unavailable from 16:30 to 22:16 on February 28th 2011  (CET/UTC+2). This is the longest downtime we have ever had since VisionProject went live 8 years ago. We are really sorry about this and for the problems it have caused you. The problem was related to network hardware failure and it did not affect our VisionProject servers or any data stored on them.

The last time VisionProject was unavailable was almost exactly one year ago, 4th of March 2010. At that time the downtime was due to a problem with the replacement firewall when the primary one broke down. We thought that we learned from that experience last year when we upgraded our firewall platform to a new clustered redundant configuration which should have been 100% fail safe. But unfortunately this was not enough, the failure yesterday proved that, when multiple components failed and stopped working almost at the same time, and it took several hours to replace them.

Of course, this should not happen and we strive to keep VisionProject up and running all the time. Even with this downtime we haven't breached our guarantee of 99.9% uptime for the last year. But still, that is only numbers and we are NOT satisfied when our customers are unable to use the services that we provide.

So, what will we do to minimize the risk that this kind of problem happens again? We will take several actions to prevent this and we will work aggressively to minimize downtime of this nature again in the future.
